Patient Monitoring

Our office uses the safest general anesthesia options available to provide our patients with maximum comfort while they are receiving medical care. We use the same amount of patient monitoring that you would receive if you were to receive surgical care. Our staff is attentive to your pet’s needs while they are being treated. We monitor vital signs with advanced equipment as well as innovative techniques that allow us to have the full scope of a procedure. It is often recommended that patients receive pre-surgery bloodwork to check on the state of the patient’s vital organs prior to surgery.

We utilize the following anesthetic agents:

  • Local Anesthesia -this may be necessary for pets who can’t sit still enough for treatment. It will numb the affected area and typically only be used for surgeries that include the skin or a small muscle group.
  • Injectable Anesthesia - The different drugs associated with injectable anesthesia vary depending on the level of need for sedation. Some drugs may only sedate the patient for a short procedure, when others may put them to sleep for the duration of a more complex procedure.
  • Gas Anesthesia - this type of anesthesia will wear off just a few minutes after the surgery has been completed. There are different types of gas anesthetic, but it mostly depends on price and vet preference.

Pain Relief

Your pet’s care is our top priority. Our goal is to perform successful surgeries without sacrificing patient comfort. We utilize several types of therapy to help ease pain during and after surgery. We work with you to determine an appropriate course of action to help your pet through the healing process, and we discuss how you can best help your pet during this time. In some cases, medications may be prescribed to help your pet feel comfortable.

Speak with our team to create a personalized treatment plan for your pet. No patient is the same, so some treatments may require extra care through the rehabilitation process. Comprehensive knowledge of your pet’s family history could also help you decide the best course of treatment moving forward.

Pre-Surgical Blood Work and Electrocardiogram

It is recommended that your pet has pre-surgical blood work done to determine the current state of their health prior to surgery. This will help your veterinarian determine the amount of risk associated with surgery. This information could affect the level of sedation advisable for their type of surgery. For patients 5 year old and up, We also recommend an EKG before surgery to assess your pet’s cardiac function.

Therapy Laser Treatment: Post Procedure

Laser Therapy is an FDA-cleared modality that reduces inflammation and that results in pain reduction and is used as part of our pain management protocol, as an adjunct to appropriate pharmacological agents. Laser Therapy utilizes the body’s own healing powers by stimulating cellular activity to regenerate and repair themselves faster.
